LORD OF THE FLIES :
Strangers from Within

II International Psychoanalytical School
for Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy

“For fifty years now a certain conviction has been growing in me the facts of life make me

think that mankind is affected by a disease I am referring to the people that I encounter I

have been shocked and stunned many times in my life to discover what we humans can

do to each other Many of us know it much better than I do and they know it from their

own experience I try not to think about many things that happened during the war,

otherwise I feel physical pain And once I am convinced that humanity is sick, it occupies

my thoughts I look for this sickness and I find it in the most accessible place for me in

myself I recognize this as a part of our great human nature that we must understand or it

will be impossible to keep it under control That's why I write with all the passion I can

muster The writer diagnoses the disease, and this is as high a duty as that of a doctor

It requires two things compassion, empathy for other people, and also inflexibility, that is,

the determination to say what you want to say, no matter what happens to you

afterwards"
